FURY erupted last night at Christopher Eccleston's decision to quit as Doctor Who.
Telly viewers were outraged by his move — exclusively revealed by The Sun yesterday.
And BBC bosses were "furious" Eccleston, 41, had torpedoed the comeback episode's ten-million ratings success story by jumping ship, claiming he did not want to be "typecast".

Fan Tony Evans wrote on the BBC message board: "I won't be watching the rest of the series or shows featuring this man."

And devotee Paul Guntrip, from West Yorkshire, added: "Eccleston could have waited a few more weeks before quitting. He should have known the hype surrounding Doctor Who." Questions were asked over why Eccleston was not contracted to a second series and so was able to walk after ONE episode had been screened.
Energy

An insider said: "The BBC has shot itself in the foot. It spent considerable money and energy on him."
Antony Wainer, spokesman for the Doctor Who Appreciation Society, said: "We are disappointed. It's a shock. But Doctor Who is about regeneration, so somebody new can easily step into his shoes."
The person expected to fill those shoes as TV's TENTH doctor is David Tennant. 33, currently the legendary lover in the raunchy drama Casanova. Bookies William Hill refused to open a book on the role while Ladbrokes made him 10-1 on favourite.
His dad, the Very Rev Dr Sandy McDonald, 67, said David played at being the Time Lord as a kid. He said: "David was a Doctor Who devotee from as far back as I can remember."

SHOW bosses ordered Eccleston to 're-shoot his final scenes — to pave the way for his replacement in the next series.
