Notes and queries

Doctor Who fans: if it turns out that Phoebe Waller-Bridge isn't the 13th Doctor, who should be?

  • Oddly, Eddie Izzard came to me in a dream as the Doctor only the other day. You know, it sort of works. Peter Millington, Long Eaton, Derbys
  • Tilda Swinton is hands down my favourite of the names that have been touted. punkmonkey
  • I fear that the greatest Doctor we will never have is Daniel Mays. Broomie
  • Peter Dinklage - Game of Thrones' Tyrion Lannister. He's the only American I would consider for the role. He has a perfect English accent, he's well known around the world, charismatic, eccentric, humorous, intelligent and he can act. Plus, no one can say he's a typical casting choice. Likewhatever
  • I've been campaigning for Romola Garai for years, ever since seeing her in the TV adaptation of Emma and Glorious 39. She has that sparkle in her eye, but also the potential for quaking anger when necessary. feelinglistless
  • Sarah Lancashire would be a fantastic choice. And also, the scripts should connect back to the ones from the golden period, with social commentary rather than just vacuous pyrotechnics. theshonny
  • My first response is Chiwetel Ejiofor, but since I'd much rather see him as the next James Bond, I'd suggest instead Daniel Kaluuya (Skins, Black Mirror), Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum) or perhaps Dev Patel. If the Doctor must be a white man (and I can't think why) then the American actor Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory would do nicely. Sebastian Avery Morris
  • Whoever they pick, it should be a competent but little-known actor. The best doctors have always come from this background: actors such as Patrick Troughton, Tom Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Matt Smith were all relatively unknown before taking the part. gritpypethynne
  • I can see Miriam Margolyes making a brilliant Doctor. peterhmills
