DR. WHO arrived in Brynmawr on Friday, and in three days of filming brought a dead factory to life, and delighted children and adults alike with his own special brand of futuristic magic.

The B.B.C. film unit transformed Brynmawr's R.C.A. out Magnetic Products factory, jus empty for 16 months, into the Global Chemical company to shoot scenes for the next Dr. Who adventure "The Green Death."

The Brynmawr factory was chosen because it was deserted, and the film makers had free use of the ground on Friday, Monday and Tuesday.

"The Green Death" is set in South Wales village, Llanfairfach, where the unemployment, caused by the closure of the coal mine, is solved by the opening of the chemical research and refinery factory.

Aiming at complete authenticity, the Dr. Who team had fil med at the disused Ogilvie colliery, before arriving at Brynmawr, where the mountains provided the right back ground, and where the series, and the star. Jon Pertwee, won themselves a lot more fans.

Complete with his famous bright yellow car, the Doctor made an unscheduled visit to Brynmawr's Church Primary School on his first day in the town, at the request of the headmaster, who could hardly contain his children's excitement.

From then on, every foot of film shot was watched by an audience of children, and parents from the comprehensive school verge opposite the R.C.A. main gates.

"We are astounded by the reception we've had in Wales." Jon Pertwee said. "Very often. when we are on location. people don't seem to take much notice. But at Brynmawr, we've had capacity crowds thewhole time.

With the first part of "The Green Death" scheduled for May 19. Dr. Who left Brynmawr for the London studios on Tuesday. And left behind him two demands.

And they've been marvellous. When we tell them to move out of camera range. or to stop talking because we're sound recording. everyone's done just that.

At the end of the day's filmings, Jon Pertwee and his costar, Katy Manning, stayed to sign autograph books, or hand signed photographs, or just chat to the awed, de lighted toddlers.

"Next time you come, please land in the Tardis, and please, please, bring the Daleks."
