Quick, call the RSPCA . . K9's been mistreated
HERE'S the first picture of robot dog K9's big Doctor Who comeback.
And as it has been 24 years, you'll have to excuse him if he's a bit rusty.
K9 was ex-Time Lord Tom Baker's loyal sidekick from 1977 to 1981.
But he looks in a real state when he and former companion Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) are reunited with the Doc, now played by David Tennant. They battle the evil Krillitanes when the Doctor investigates sinister events at a comprehensive school in an episode to be shown next spring.
It stars Anthony Head -best known from Buffy The Vampire Slayer and as the Prime Minister in Little Britain.
A show insider said: "K9's look is part of the plot -he's been rusting away and needs the Time Lord to revive him in time to save the world.
"But is it too late? Can K9 cut the mustard any more?"
As TV Biz revealed, veteran actor John Leeson, 62, the original voice of K9, signed a new deal to star in the BBC show.
He said last night: "I am delighted to have been invited back on board."
Rose (Billie Piper) and her boyfriend Mickey (Noel Clarke) also help the Doc and his dog.
Producer Phil Collinson said: "It is great to be welcoming K9 back to Doctor Who.
I'm sure he's going to prove an invaluable help to the Doctor in the fight against intergalactic evil."
