Time-Life sues OSU for film payments

Time-Life Films Inc. filed a $450,000 suit Friday claiming WOSU has not paid for feature programs aired two years ago.
The suit, which was filed in the Ohio Court of Claims, names WOSU and Ohio State as defendants
Between March 1978 and August 1980, WOSU aired and never paid for more than $600,000 worth of Time—Life programs such as "Dr. Who," "Dave Allen At Large," "Monty Python's Flying Circus," and "Wodehouse Playhouse," the suit says.
The complaint cites as evidence nine invoices totaling $608,502 of programs Time—Life claims WOSU never paid for. The suit did not state why Time-Life is only asking for $450,000.
Only two of the invoices, however, are signed by WOSU and Time-Life representatives. The signed invoices total $160,830.
"We brought the case to their attention two years ago," said Dale Ouzts, director of the OSU Telecommunications Center.
"We provided Time-Life with our records and asked them to tell us specifically how much we owed," he said Friday.
It was only in the last three or four months that Time-Life began insisting WOSU owed that large a sum, Ouzts said.
Other programs the suit says WOSU did not pay for include feature-length films and documentaries such as "Search for the Nile," "Fight Against Slavery," "Six Wives Of Henry VIII" and "War and Peace."
