Tardis for sale in TV auction

DESPITE a string of not-so-careful owners and several million miles on the clock, lot 688 is expected to attract quite a number of bids. Essential for any timelord, Doctor Who's Tardis this week goes under the hammer. The 10ft-high time machine is the highlight of a TV props and scenery auction. Also up for grabs is Rumpole of the Bailey's court number one, a life-sized wooden replica of the entrance to 10 Downing Street and fireplaces from One Foot in the Grave, Blackadder and Red Dwarf.

The Production Design Company is auctioning off the scenery after selling its London warehouse. Wednesday's sale will also include a cell door from Porridge and polystyrene statues of Winston Churchill and Lloyd George, a churchyard and a set of traffic lights. There have been more than 50 enquiries about Dr Who's police box, but auctioneers Henry Butler and Co have no idea what it will sell for. A spokesman said. "We're more used to selling heavy machinery so we're not sure how much to expect for a time machine."

The lots can be viewed today and tomorrow at auctioneers Henry Butler in Haves. West London.
