Julia Fagin of Villa Park, Jim Wearne of Downers Grove and Madelyn Kuche of Lombard have won the three prizes in Press Publications' Doctor Who Trivia Contest published Friday, March 31.

The three winners will each be sent a copy of a special souvenir magazine titled "Doctor Who — the 25th Anniversary Special."

Though none of the numerous entries received as of Friday, April 14, the deadline, were completely correct, many were very, very close, with most of the trouble coming in the 10th question referring to the Doctor's smoking habits.

Fagin edged out all other entries by a fraction, while Wearne and Kuche were drawn from a plethora of replies that tied for second place.

The answers to the quiz are as follows:

  • K-9 was the name of the Doctor's dog featured during the Tom Baker era of the program.
  • The Master is the name of the evil, renegade Timelord. *Bessie was the name of the third Doctor's automobile.
  • The Daleks are the villainous race of robot creatures that have menaced the Doctor in all seven of his incarnations.
  • Leela was the name of the Doctor's savage, female warrior companion.
  • John Cleese, of "Monty Python" fame, was the British comedian who made a cameo appearance at the Louvre on "Doctor Who."
  • Jelly Babies are the Doctor's candy of choice.
  • The Beatles were the internationally famous rock group that appeared on "Doctor Who" during the William Hartnell era.
  • Patrick Troughton, the second Doctor, is the incarnation to have met the greatest number of his other selves. In addition to appearing in both "The Three Doctors" and "The Five Doctors" episodes, Troughton also appeared in another special episode, "The Two Doctors," with Colin Baker, a fact that many entrants overlooked.
  • And finally, regarding the Doctor's brief forays into the tobacco world, William Hartnell, the first Doctor, had smoked a pipe, and Tom Baker, the fourth Doctor, had smoked a hookah, an Oriental water pipe.

"Doctor Who," the British science-fantasy television program, is seen locally at 11 p.m. Sundays on WTTW Channel 11.
