THE bride to be has tamed a Dalek. The Dr. Who "monster" met her at a charity sale at Christie's auction rooms last night - and was almost lost for words.

Immediately after its brush with the future princess the Dalek was sold for £4,200 to 11-yearold William Brooks, grandson of Mr. 3ill Brooks, chairman of Christies. Miss Ferguson told the Dalek: "I hope you are going to raise lots of money" Quite overcome, it could only splutter in reply: "I hope so".

A host of celebrities and stars had given a total of 200 items for the charity auction after an appeal launched jointly by the BBC Women's Hour programme and the Red Cross to raise money for the Sudan. The auction brought in more than £30,000.

The organisers had hoped that Miss Ferguson might sign a programme which could have become the star auction lot, but she told them that royal protocol now stopped her from signing autographs.
