ACTOR Will Thorp, who made such a big impression on Strictly Come Dancing, has landed a major role in Dr Who.
The former Casualty star, who will be seen on stage at the Opera House in Belfast in a play later in the year, has been cast as a nasty archaeologist called Toby with whom the good Doc and his partner Rose (David Tennant and Billie Piper) are trapped on a desolate planet.
Will makes his Who debut tonight in the new sci-fi two-parter called The Impossible Planet.
"My character is one of a crew of space explorers trapped in this strange world when the Doc and Rose turn up," he explains today.
"It's great working on Dr Who. I grew up watching Tom Baker who was the fourth doctor."
And Will is now working with the sixth doctor, Colin Baker, on a ' marathon tour with the stage play, Strangers on a Train, a psychological thriller which was made into a film in 1951 by Alfred Hitchcock.
Negotiations are now going on to bring Strangers on a Train to the Opera House next winter after the theatre, now undergoing massive refurbishment, reopens in October.
Thorp, married with a baby son, danced with professional Hanna Haarala in Strictly Come Dancing and lasted into the sixth week.
It was after his dancing exploits that he landed the Dr Who part and was then offered Strangers on a Train.
As Woody in Casualty, his character was once locked in a sauna wearing only fluffy pink handcuffs by an older lady he had rejected.
