DR. WHO is to lose his fearless young journalist assistant, Sarah Jane.

But it's still a mystery how she will disappear from the show and who will replace her.

Sarah Jane, played by Liz Sladen, will be written out after two stories of the next series, which begins on BBC TV in October.

Miss Sladen, 28, said at her home in Ealing: "I'll still be involved in the programmes until the end of the year. We haven't decided yet how Sarah Jane will leave,

"Of course I enjoyed playing her tremendously but there is a time for everything to end and this is it for me. I just want to do something. else."

She has just returned to London after starring with her actor husband, Brian Miller, in Peter Terson's "Mooney And His Caravan," at the Liverpool Playhouse.

She has also been working in BBC radio drama.

Last night, Tom Baker, who plays Dr. Who, said: "I shall miss Liz very much professionally. We've worked together now for more than a year.

"She's a very rapid thinker, which makes my life considerably easier. I don't know what the doctor will do without Sarah Jane. He'll have to start talking to himself, perhaps."
