Television's Dr Who is to marry his assistant.
Tom Baker and Lalla Ward — who will soon quit the program at the end of the current series — hope to marry before Christmas.
The announcement today ended months of speculation about a romance between the two. They fell in love after Lalla Joined the zany doctor in his time-hopping aboard the Tardus.
Lalla, 29. said today: "Our 'romance has been on and off since the beginning of the years. Now it is definitely on.
Robot
"We are both looking forward to being married.
"I am selling my Chelsea flat and I shall move in with Tom in his London home."
It will be Lalla's first marriage, but 45-year-old Tom has been married before and has two grown-up sons.
Tom, who played Dr Who for five years, is leaving the program. Lalla and the robot dog, K9, were dropped when a new producer took over.
