AS the Tardis flits between the centuries and the planets, down here on earth a new book is assuring mere mortals in the Northern Ireland Dr Who Appreciation Society of a Happy Christmas 1989.
The paperback is the second volume of the Encyclopedia of the Worlds of Dr Who E-K (Knight Books £3.50).
Compiled by one David Saunders, a librarian and faithful Tardis follower since the inception of the BBC series in 1963.
He writes regularly for Dr Who Magazine and would make an excellent guest speaker at the next meeting of the Dr Who branch in Belfast.
Everything you ever wanted to know about the characters and plots in the series, well at least those between E and K, is in these pages.
There will be six volumes in all from the Saunders' pen — apparently the first was a success — so there is plenty of reading ahead for followers of the BBC's greatest cult character who is currently striding across our screens in the person of Sylvester McCoy.
Indeed Dr Who is a registered trademark of the BBC.
But I have to say that for anyone who isn't committed to Dr Who and his time machine this encyclopedia has no excitement.
On the other hand if you are a follower of the Tardis be interested in being reminded when the Cybermen constructed their earth base.
Or which Doctor prescribed the jelly babies.
Or indeed who the ice soldier swere or what they did with the Conscience of Marinus.
Still on science fiction but with another cult series "Star Trek" what does the T stand for in Captain James T. Kirk?
