THE intrepid Doctor (William Hartnell) and Steven (Peter Purves) have left the alien dangers of the Daleks and returned to the world of humans. Yet the humans are scarcely less sinister than the Daleks for the travellers have landed in the middle of a bitter sixteenth-century quarrel between the Catholics and the Protestants of France—a quarrel which is soon to culminate in the bloody massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve.
