THE A.B.C. kept its promise (following a barrage of complaints) to show the latest series of Doctor Who in its entirety. Fine. However, their experience with Doctor Who has apparently taught the ABC nothing, as many episodes of Treasure Island In Outer Space were still missed in region al areas.

The ABC should understand that skipping episodes of a series — any series — destroys story continuity and angers anyone interested enough to watch. But if they haven't comprehended this simple truth already, I doubt my letter will convince them.

The commercial stations aren't any more reliable. Prime, for example, scheduled several late-night horror movies and didn't show them at all, or showed them at different times than advertised (which makes programming your VCR impossible).

I often wonder why Australian TV can't be more like New Zealand TV, where deviations from the advertised schedule are rare. There's a comforting regularity about New Zealand TV; Kiwis take it for granted that their favourite programs will be there week after week in the usual timeslot.
