It's one of those little events that passes around mostly through word of mouth but that once one attends, the memory lasts forever. A smaller "'con" than Norwescon. or Westercon, Anglicon tends to bring together a more serious group of folks, with a focus on British entertainment of all kinds.

With proceeds benefiting KBTC Public Television in Tacoma, Anglicon this year had as its main attraction Red Dwarf series stars Craig Charles (who plays the character Lister), and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten). Also on hand were John Levene (Sgt. Benton of Dr. Who) and Eric Hoffman, noted Dr. Who archivist. Charles and Llewellyn pleased fans by giving autographs and signing Red Dwarf memorabilia, before they had to whisk off for a special promotional appearance for Channel 9, KCTS.

And of course, like all other sci-fi/fantasy conventions for the genres. there was a dealers room where one could purchase Xena and X-Files mementos and other fun stuff and a masked ball for fans to meet, greet and renew "auld acquaintance."

There was also a party where interested fans could purchase "slash 'zines," those delightfully twisted chapbooks written by fans who take the possibilities of such pairings as Garek and Bashir (of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) to new levels. A lot of these have Gay or Lesbian themes and are distributed via the Internet or through mail order from the author. To find out more about upcoming 'cons including ones with Gay themes, check out the worldwide web under "science fiction conventions."

Anglicon II May 15-17 Best Western Executive Inn, Tacoma
