No Return for the Daleks

Dr Who, Sylvester McCoy with TV foe Kate O'Mara and assistant Bonnie Langford.

PLANS for a E9 million full length feature film of BBC's veteran sci-fi series Dr Who were announced yesterday.

Filming will start early next year on the ambitious Star Wars-style American-backed blockbuster.

The new look Dr Who will feature a lavish new story line, exotic locations and stunning special effects.

John Humphreys, director of Coast-To-Coast, the film's London based production company, boasted an exciting updated look, but promised there would not be a break with tradition.

Special effects

"Dr Who has millions of fans around the world, we don't want to upset them. The basic rules of the story will stay, the Doctor's character, Tardis and theme tune, but we want to develop it."

"It's always been a good idea with a very low budget. With a great deal more money the sky's the limit," he said.

He said Dalek fans would be disappointed as the Doctor would face a collection of brand new characters but he was staying tight-lipped about the film's star but present Dr Who, Sylvester McCoy is a hot tip for the film role.

Coast-to-Coast, creators of Max Headroom and past Dr Who special effects promise the Doctor will stay British and are already talking of Dr Who II and III.
