The B B C will lose its Dr. Who, after Patrick Troughton, and his companion Jamie, played by Frazer Hines, when the T V series reaches its summer break in June.
Troughton, who has played the role since he took over from William Hartnell, the original time-and-Space doctor, told the B B C that he wanted to live in March.
But Producer Peter Bryant said last night: "He has aggred to stay on until June. I will then look for a replacement."
He added: "It is a blow to the series because Patrick has proved to be an excellent Dr. Who."
