Blasted by death rays of scepticism

Sir, I read at regular intervals in the paper about the latest "sensational" audience figures, the pre-supposed fascination with an actor to play the role etc, and yet as I remember it, Doctor Who was an averagely interesting show for children. The hype that surrounds it seems to grow, and yet I know of no one that actually watches it.
Am I living on another planet or within a different cosmic time zone, or, as I imagine, being blasted by some invisible death ray of received wisdom concerning its greatness, peddled by a BBC short on ideas but long on tiresome nostalgia?
