DR WHO wasn't at home when three-year-old Jennifer Hoey carefully examined his spacecraft In George Square this week. Not a Dalek could be found near the bright red and white capsule, not even an Ice Warrior, although it was cold enough for them.
Instead, two burly policemen with cold red noses and down-to-earth size 10 boots emerged to patrol the Square.
Every year, when the Christmas decorations go up the police box appears in the Square, and disappears when they are taken down.
Police patrols stop in at the box for a heat and a rest from their beats. They don't know who takes the box there, or where it goes for the rest of the year. Neither does the corporation lighting department. Neither does the Information Bureau.
It is quite clear that this mysterious machine is the Tardis, bringing the weird Dr Who and his mysterious friends to earth to enjoy the gay, colourful lights in Glasgow's city centre. The doctor wasn't available to speak to Jennifer. He was probably catching up on some last minute Christmas shopping.
