MONTY Python movie star Eric Idle is to play the world's most famous time traveller in Steven Spiel-berg's version of the TV series Doctor Who.
Baywatch star Pamela Anderson will play his assistant and Peter O'Toole will play his father in The New Adventures of Doctor Who.
Spielberg approached 51-year-old Idle believing he would appeal to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. Idle is expected to earn £34,000 for each episode. Filming is due to start in California in July.
Blade Runner director Ridley Scott has been asked to handle the pilot programme. The BBC axed Dr Who in 1989 after ratings slumped. It was first shown in 1963.
