[edit]

STRANGER than an episode of Torchwood that ITV boss Michael Grade has scooped up Peter Fincham, left, to head up ITV1. Not because this ex-BBC boss (who resigned recently over the sexed-up trailer for The Queen documentary) should end up at the opposition.

Musical chairs are quite common in broadcasting jobs at that level of course - remember Grade himself is a former Beeb head honcho who had run LWT before that. Nice work if you can get it - and he certainly seems to.

No, what's a little weird is that part of the reason Fincham's found himself in a new job so quickly is because of his success at BBC1, especially with Doctor Who. Which 41 his new boss Michael was responsible for cancelling before he left the Beeb to go and run the Tote.

Maybe Fincham should start by having a third crack at making Crossroads work rather than risk any new ideas...
