IMAGINATIVE COUPLE CELEBRATE NUPTIALS IN SCI-FI STYLE

LOVING Chris and Ruth Nicholaidis put the marvel in their marvellous day...

Weddings are always special and so the self-proclaimed geeks combined Ruth's love of Marvel and Chris' love for all things sci-fi -especially Doctor Who - to create the theme for their big day.

Managing director Chris and company secretary and business owner Ruth met online and he later proposed in their home - after they bought the rings!

Chris and Ruth wanted the invites to have a classic feel to them, while also give people a taste of what was to come at the wedding. They decided to use Doctor Who Blue and Cream. They wanted the inside to look formal but wrapped it up to look like the TARDIS.

From their home in Shotley Bridge, Durham, Ruth said: "The comments were priceless, as were the rooks on our parents' faces when they opened them for the first time"

However, their guests didn't just get a formal invitation. Ruth and Chris also made a video Save the Date invite which they posted on their website.

Chris also designed the evening invitations, turning them into an eight-page Marvel-inspired comic book.

Ruth said: "We thought we got nice messages and responses from the main invites, but the ones we got after people received the evening invites blew us away!"

The cake had to fit in with the theme and Ruth knew who she was going to ask to make their stunning cake, Sandra Clennell, who owns Sugarfun Cake Artistry.

Ruth said: "As soon as we got engaged I actually set about 'sweet' talking Sandra into helping us and now was the exciting time to go and start discussing the cake with her, get the creative juices flowing and, obviously, sample tons of her delicious cake!"

With classic icing on one side, the cake was placed on a stand which turned around to reveal the open side which featured their favourite characters hanging off the cake. The T.A.R.D.I.S was also featured, hidden in the layers. It took two weeks to design and construct the stand the cake went on. The cake was revealed after Chris's speech.

With the wedding's theme being a little different, it was the perfect opportunity for Ruth to do something a little different too. After her dad had given his Father of the Bride speech, Ruth stood up to make her own.

Ruth said: "We went a bit leftfield at times, but it is what made our day ours and special!"

No one knew she was going to make a speech. Not even Chris, so it took everyone by surprise.

Ruth and Chris also booked magician/balloon modeller Flash the Magician, for their wedding. He made balloon cakes with a balloon bride and groom and also did balloon modelling with children while the speeches were on.

Ruth and Chris designed their own rings - as well as a ring box to keep them in - designed to fit their wedding theme too.

David Webb based in Washington took the photographs.

Ruth said: "David was superb in the run-up to the wedding and our pre-wedding photo shoot was so much fun which comes through in the photos and then on the day he was so fabulous that everyone relaxed and had great fun with him around making the photos even more amazing and special."
