Vulcans, Klingons, Dr Who, even Dracula, are scheduled to make an appear ance at QuestiCon 1, a science fiction convention April 19 at Valley View High School. QuestiCon 1, the first full science fiction convention to be conducted in the Scranton area, is being sponsored by Tesseract, Scranton's adult science fiction club, and the Valley View Science Fiction Club.

Lee Sebastiani, the founder of Tesseract and advisor to the Valley View club, is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Sebastiani says plans call for a day-long program of displays, workshops, art and fashion shows.

The program will include items of interest to Trekkies, the followers of the "Star Trek" television series, stars books and movie.

Pat Stath, editor and publisher of Anthesis, a "fanzene" (fan magazine) that looks at the world from the viewpoint of the Klingons, one of the Star Trek "bad guy" races, and her family will attend QuestiCon in costume. Mrs. Stath will conduct a science fiction writers' workshop.

Cindy Whitehead, a contributor to Anthem will conduct a similar workshop high-lighting science fiction poetry t writing.

The Star Trek television episode, "The Trouble with Tribbles," as well as the "Star Trek Blooper Film," will be shown during the convention. Local authors, Ted Cogswell and Charlie Spano will be featured as guests of honor.

Cogswell, a member of the Keystone Junior College faculty, has written several science fiction stories. He collaborated with Spano, a local Star Trek authority who teaches in the Scranton School District, in writing Spock, Messiah! a Star Trek novel.

Ellen Mortimer of Staten Island will give a Dr. Who presentation. Dr. Who, a science fiction television series by the British Broadcasting Company, was featured locally on PBS.

A computer display will be presented by local dealers. Any one attending may bring along original art work in any media. Art work must have a science fiction or fantasy theme. An auction will be conducted for artists wishing to sell their works.

Those attending the convention will be invited to show up in costume. Costumes must also revolve around a science fiction/fantasy theme. At present participants have indicated intentions to show up as Kling-ons, Vulcans (more of the Star Trek bad guys,) Dr. Who and Dracula.

Miss Sebastiani, the librarian at Valley View High School, belongs to several science fiction societies. She is a founder of Tesseract. The name, she says, implies things being in the fourth dimension.

She is a member of the Mythopoeic Society, an organization dedicated to the works of Tolkein; the Friends of Dark Over, a group organized to study the Dark Over books of Marian Zimmer Bradley; the Deryni Fan Club, members review the fantasy works of Kathryn Kurtz and the Society of Creative Anachronism."

Details on QuestiCon may be obtained by contacting Miss Sebastiani at Valley View High School in Arichbald. A fee will include a luncheon banquet. Persons making reservations should indicate if they plan to attend the writer/poet workshops, art or costume contests.
