U.S. series replaces Dr. Who

STAR TREK, the American series described as the best science fiction series yet produced on television, will replace Dr. Who on Saturday evenings on BBC-1 from July 12. It will run till the end of the year.
A character with large pointed ears is one of the stars of the new space adventure series. Called Mr. Spock. he is half human and half Vulcanian. He is played by Leonard Nimoy.
Star Trek was given five Emmy nominations in its first year in America. The Smithsonian Institute asked for the pilot programme for its space and scientists from the Rand Corporation act as consultants for the series.
The series notable for its attention to detail and technical accuracy. It is set 100 years from now, aboard a deep-space cruiser, exploring strange new worlds on the edges of the known universe.
Mr. Spock, the ship's second officer, has become one of the cult characters of American television.
