Community supported KCET, Channel 28, launches its summer season this evening, introducing two. new series from England.
They are "Dr. Who," billed as a zany science fiction series, from 7:30 to 8, and "The Rivals of Sherlock Holmes," an anthology detective series, from 8 to 9.
"Dr. Who" is one of the longest running series in BBC history. It stars Jon Pertwee as the eccentric and invincible Dr. Who, who takes on an assortment of fiends and monsters and narrowly escapes disaster in each "campy" episode.
Though the series appeals to enough British viewers to have enjoyed a long run, it sounds like the sort of thing to have no appeal whatever to many persons — and it shouldn't be considered typical of public television programming.
Thirteen different adventures of Dr. Who, totaling 72 half-hour episodes, will be offered on Channel 28.
