BBC RADIO One is to play a record which attacks BBC 1 controller Michael Grade's decision to shelve the Dr Who series for at least 18 months
The disc, called "Doctor in Distress" will be played "in a news context" on tomorrow's Saturday Live show, which will be devoted to discussion on the axing of the time lord.
Among the performers on the protest record, made yesterday, are Colin Baker, the current Dr Who, his screen assistant Nicola Bryant, Justin Hayward, and John Lodge of the Moody Blues, super group Ultravox. comedienne Faith Brown and Bobby Gee from Bucks Fizz, who are calling themselves "Who Cares".
If it is a hit, programme executives will have to decide whether it should be played on radio and television.
A Radio One spokesman said today: The BBC still has to decide whether it will be played regularly on Radio One. It will be judged on its merits. Tomorrow it will be played but in a news context."
