CHRISTMAS will arrive early next Monday night for Colin Dowling, the man from the Northern Ireland Dr Who Society, when he comes face to face with not one but two members of the legendary sci-fi series.
And without having to go time travelling in the Tardus.
For Colin Baker — the sixth Dr Who — and Louise Jameson, who was Leela, companion to Tom Baker, the fourth, are both in the comedy thriller Corpse! opening at the Opera House for a week.
And Dowling, a 32-year-old gent's outfitter from Bangor, and his wife Sonya will be in the stalls for at least two performances and afterwards will take Colin and Louise out to dinner.
Many other members of the 160-strong Type 40 Dr Who Society — named after the model number of the Tardus — will be in the audience at the Opera House, too.
"Colin is my favourite of all the Dr Whos," says Dowling, who has been a fan of the television sci-fi adventurer since a monster locked in mortal combat with his hero scared him half to death when he was only four.
"I've met him a few times and we keep in touch. And I also send him copies of our quarterly fanzine."
And Baker who also found television success in the trucking drama series, The Brothers, adds: "I enjoy going to Dr Who conventions — I love spending the day with a lot of people who think I'm wonderful.
"When I'm touring with a play I let the people who run Dr Who conventions know when I'll be in their town and we have a reunion. It'll be fun meeting up with Colin and Sonya again in Belfast.
"Especially as they are coming to my play, which is hilarious."
The first Dr Who on BBC screens back in 1963 was William Hartnell, the second was Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee was the third followed by Ibm Baker, Peter Davison and then Colin Baker, who was replaced by Sylvester McCoy.
"Sylvester started off as Dr Who in a big screen movie afterwards and before our very eyes Paul McGann slowly took over the role during the plot," says Dowling.
In Corpse! Peter Duncan, ex-Blue Peter, plays twins, one rich and successful and the other a poor no-gooder who hires a gunman to murder his brother, which leads to a comedy of errors with Baker as the inept conman, Major, who is trying to do the shooting.
Tickets for Corpse! are still available at the Opera House ticket office 02890-
