Doctor Who celebrates its 50th anniversary in style
THERE MAY BE 11 DIFFERENT ACTORS WHO'VE PORTRAYED everyone's favourite Timelord since his debut in 1963, but it's Tom Baker's take on the Doctor from 1974 to 1981 that resonates as the clear fan favourite. But it wasn't always the case: a BBC report on the debut episode of Baker (pictured here in the BBC TV Centre car park) noted some viewers found him "too stupid for words". These days Who fanatics are frothing at the mouth at the prospect of Baker, K-9 and sidekick Leela (Louise Jameson) possibly appearing in a 50th anniversary special set to air later this year.
