Queen of the catchphrases Catherine Tate reckons Billie Piper has helped make Doctor Who liked by girls.
The comedienne becomes the Doctor's unwilling assistant in the Christmas special after Billie quit the show at the end of the second series.
While the Doctor, played by Scotsactor David Tennant, has spent the past two years happily with Rose (who also starred with comeback Doctor Christopher Eccleston), Catherine as Donna gives the Tardis a far bumpier ride.
She said: "The way Doctor Who has taken off is just fantastic.
"And I think Billie is a big part of getting young girls on board as well, because they all kind of idolise the Rose character.
"When I was little I liked Doctor Who but I think boys liked it more. But now it's across the board."
In the Christmas special called The Runaway Bride, Catherine as Donna mysteriously vanishes as she prepares to marry her boyfriend Lance in a glittering ceremony held on Christmas Eve.
She reappears, much to her astonishment, in The Tardis with The Doctor - and now she is late for her own wedding. As the Tardis races to get to the church on time, the Doctor and Donna are closely watched by the sinister figure of The Empress of Racnoss (Sarah Parish) from her throne in her spaceship.
It soon becomes clear that Donna is the key to an ancient alien plan to destroy the Earth - and she has some evil robot Santas on her side!
Catherine, who has her own BBC Two comedy series The Catherine Tate Show, added: "I had a blast working on Doctor Who.
"I'd never done blue screen or green screen, I'd never done that kind of acting. I'd never done a production where the special effects are so vast that they can't actually produce them until you finish the show. That was brilliant."
And while Catherine is known for her catchphrases like "Am I bovvered?" and "Who, dear? Me, dear? Gay, dear? No, dear", she claims Doctor Who was an acting role rather than a comedy role.
She laughed: "It's really weird, because you can't actually write a catchphrase - you can't make people repeat something.
"It's people that make it a catchphrase, which is why I think 'It's Chico time' didn't quite catch on, because it was being told to us that this was a catchphrase."
