BBC probe after scripts leaked

THE scripts for nearly half of the new episodes of Doctor Who were leaked online yesterday.

BBC bosses urged the public not to share the material for the forthcoming series, which stars Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor.

The leak is understood to have come from BBC Worldwide's offices in Miami, where the scripts were being translated for broadcast around the globe.

A statement from BBC Worldwide – t he broadcaster ' s commercial arm – said it was investigating the security issue, which led to "unfinished material" being made public.

It went on: "We deeply regret this and apologise to all the show's fans, the BBC and the cast and crew who have worked tirelessly making the series. We'd like to make a plea to anyone who might have any of this material and spoilers associated with it not to share it with a wider audience so everyone can enjoy the show as it should be seen when it launches.

"We know only too well that Doctor Who fans are the best in the world and we thank them for their help in this and their continued loyalty." The five leaked scripts included Steven Moffat's featurelength series opener Deep Breath, which is due to air on BBC1 on August 23.

The others are Into the Dalek, Robots of Sherwood, Listen and Time Heist.

Yesterday the BBC was at pains to have the material removed from the internet to keep the series fresh.

Trailers have already aired for the new run, which includes 12 episodes and a Christmas special. Next month's opener, which also stars Jenna Coleman as Clara, is set in Victorian London and features the return of the Paternoster Gang.

Guest stars are known to include comedian Frank Skinner, Cold Feet actress Hermione Norris and Keeley Hawes as baddie Ms Delphox.

Writer Moffat has also confirmed The Thick of It star Capaldi's version of the Doctor will be nothing like predecessor Matt Smith's. He said: "This is what regeneration can do to you. He can be very, very different."
