[edit]

WHAT horrors will Dr. Who meet in his time travels? The new series opened on Saturday with an encounter with the Loch Ness monster but the producers cannot be short of inspiration tor new creations.

Early this year the terrifying Niarb was brought to their notice by 14-year-old David Robson, of Denewell Avenue, High Heaton, Newcastle. And the Niarb Flyitarus (right) is only the first evolutionary stage of David's monster which develops into the ultimate Brain of the Universe, controlling all things by thought transference.

The Niarb (that's "brain" spelled backwards) won David a top prize in the BBC's Design a Monster competition. Could it be a gruesome successor the Daleks? Who knows ... or does he?.
