GEEZER star Danny Dyer wants to swap the Queen Vic for the Tardis as the first cockney Doctor Who. The EastEnders actor feels he'd be the perfect replacement for Peter Capaldi when he leaves the show this year. And the star, who has played Mick Carter on the BBC soap since 2013, is now begging bosses to move him from Walford to the Who-niverse.

Danny said: "I'd be interested in it. I could see myself in the scarf and all that."

Scottish actor Peter, 58, kept his native tongue on the show, so Danny thinks it is time for a cheeky chappie cockney accent in the Tardis.

The 39-year-old said: "I think I could do it easy. I'd keep my accent too."

Danny's legions of fans are also desperate to see him with the sonic screwdriver - even setting up a petition to attract support.

They wrote: "My understanding is that Danny Dyer has a contract in EastEnders until October this year. Mr Dyer should then move into the position of the new Doctor."

Danny has previously expressed interest in taking posh Benedict Cumberbatch's role in another BBC hit, Sherlock.

He revealed back in 2015: "I think I could do Sherlock, I think it's a great role. Doctor Who is another one. "I think it's about having charisma and personality. I'd love something like that."

Former My Family actor Kris Marshall is the bookies' favourite to be the Doc after leaving BBC hit Death In Paradise.
