IT IS three years since Louise Jameson (above) wore a few bits of fur and leather and roamed the universe as Dr Who's assistant, Leela.

But it seems no one is going to let the 28-year-old London actress forget her time in the Tardis.

A Dr Who fan club invited Louise to Los Angeles for a convention on the programme, but she had to turn the offer down because she is appearing in a Bristol Repertory Theatre production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

'Delighted'

Undaunted, the West Coast sci-fi fans came back and offered Louise another date when her Bristol run is over.

"I was flabbergasted," said Louise. "Of course, I accepted and I will be flying over there in a couple of weeks time. Dr Who is in its second series in America, and very popular.

"They want me to talk about the programme to a convention of 5000 to 6000 people, and then sign autographs, and so on. I'm delighted with the prospect. While the theatre is my first love, I thoroughly enjoyed Dr Who.

"Leela was a marvellous part, she was from the Sevateen tribe, savage, instinctive and intuitive to balance the Doctor's wisdom. I'm very grateful I had the opportunity to play her. No one seems to have forgotten Leela, and the only objection I had was that kids thought I was really tough and came up and thumped me."
