RICHARD BRIERS, the amiable suburban husband of The Good Life and Ever Decreasing Circles, is about to shake us — as The Great Dictator.

He puts on a false moustache, a peaked cap and looks "a bit like Hitler" when playing a people-eating dictator to DR WHO (BBC-1, Monday).

"I usually play exaggerated versions of myself," says Richard. "But this chap is a nasty piece of work."

He took on the part because "it's a guest role and quite central to the plot. Working on Dr Who is like being part of a rep company.

"I felt a bit nervous. You do with anything that is not your own. But it's hard work."
