TELEVISION space traveller Janet Fielding, who plays Tegan in the sci-fi favorite Doctor Who, has thrilled fans with a visit to her home town, Brisbane.

Janet, 29, played Dr Who's sexy assistant for three years. during which time she built up a cult following around the world.

She was invited back to Australia by sci-fi club Conquest Organisation to auction ropes used to tie up the Time Lord, Peri, Jondae and Areta in an episode of the popular series titled Vengeance on Varos.

Doctor Who fans are expected to turn out in force for Janet's autograph.

She said at a similar sci-fi conference in America recently, she was overawed when 70,000 fans came to see their TV space travelling heroes.

Her television appearance as Tegan has been such a success, that she has carved a niche in the baby name business.

"Mum is always sending over clippings to say how many babies have been called Tegan," Janet said.
