DR WHO'S beautiful assistant Romana-real name Hon. Sara Ward, daughter of Lord and Lady Bangor-has been written out of the series and replaced by a boy.
But Sara who played the 375-year-old Time Lord in the long-running BBC-1 series, has switched channels to BBC-2 to play Ophelia opposite Derek Jacobi as Hamlet.
The Hon. Sara (stage name Lalla Ward) played the part of Romana for over a year and almost gave up acting before she got the part.
"I dropped out over a year ago and said I'd never act again," she said after getting the part in Dr. Who.
"I just couldn't bear the whole round of going for parts and working with other people.
"I'm a loner, really. I went to France and travelled a lot."
Lalla first landed the part of the cool aloof Princess Astra. When Mary Tamm (Dr. Who's 10th assistant) left the show, 28-year-old Lalla got the part.
The girl with the Castleward connections is also remembered for her role as Lottie, the daughter in the Duchess of Duke Street series.
