The Take That star, 39, told BBC chiefs he was keen to be the Time Lord in a cartoon version of the series.

They thought he'd be ideal for their story The Scream Of The Shalka in 2003.

But programme boss Muirinn Lane Kelly revealed: "It turned out he wasn't available and it wasn't possible."

In the end the part went to Richard E Grant, 56, left.
