VIEWERS had a rare chance to slip behind the scenes at the BBC television studios in Riding.

BBC Television threw open the historic doors of the once-famous Ealing Film Studios at The Green, Ealing for four days, from Saturday to Tuesday to give families glimpse into how a television programme is made. Mums, dads and youngsters were delighted to explore film sets, watch experts shoot scenes and see the special effects.

They were also invited to try their hand at turning day into night using the lighting desk, editing their own sequences, dubbing on sound and using computer paintbox special effects. An associated photographic exhibition, Forty Years of BBC Comedy, is being held at nearby Pitshanger Manor until next Tuesday.

Many major BBC dramas have been recorded at the studios including The Green Man, Chronicles of Narnia and House of Cards. The BBC took over Ealing Studios in 1956 to give its flint department a permanent base.
