TIME'S up for Matt Smith as The Doctor this Christmas.
Fans will see the actor, 31, bow out in a festive special that will see him go up against the Cybermen and other foes. He will be killed off, but not before he reveals the shock news that he has used up all 12 of his regenerations, leaving the fate of Time Lords in the balance. According to folklore, dying Time Lords are allowed to be "reborn" a dozen times before they bite the dust. However, it seems history will be rewritten at Christmas.
At the end of the Christmas Day episode, fans will see Smith regenerate into Peter Capaldi, 55, who is taking over the role next year.
Steven Moffatt teased about the twist: "When it gets to the point where we reach the 13th Doctor, we aren't going to go: 'That's it then.' We'll make something up."
