Former popstar, her first single went to number one when she was just 15. Made her acting debut in BBC1 adaptation of the Canterbury Tales, before receiving critical acclaim for her performance in BBC2's Bella and the Boys. She then appeared in the Corporation's Shakespeare Season before securing a role in Doctor Who as Rose, the Time-lord's sidekick.

She stars as Fanny Price in ITV1's new adaptation of Mansfield Park, part of the network's Jane Austen season. The Beeb have also nabbed her to play Victorian teenage sleuth Sally Lockhart in the adaptation of Philip Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke
