I see Yates. So the Doctor was frozen stiff at the barrow and was then revived by a freak heatwave. Benton was beaten up by invisible forces and the local white witch claims she's seen the devil." So says Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart in the classic Doctor Who story 'The Daemons'. Spy joined 300 Whovians for a Daemons day at Aldbourne in Wiltshire (aka Devil's End) the village in which the series was filmed 25 years ago. Never mind Paul McGann's new film, here was the churchyard where the Master, posing as a vicar, had summoned up powers of darkness in 1971. A pint in the Cloven Hoof (aka the Blue Boar) helped enliven panel sessions with Jon Pertwee himself and UNIT chums Nicholas Courtney (the Brigadier), John Levene (Benson) and Richard Franklin (Yates). Although sadly modern kids proved too much for most intergalactic creatures; an Ice Warrior's arm fell off and a Dalek's head was toppled and had to be repaired with a (presumably sonic) screwdriver. A great day ended with fireworks over the village and an escape through the force field around Devil's End. And Spy has now stood in the very spot where Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart uttered his immortal line: "Jenkins, that chap with the wings, five rounds rapid!"
