TELEVISION'S "supreme commander" of all Dalek forces, the dreaded Black Dalek, will be making what is described as an official interplanetry visit to Craigavon and Banbridge next week.

But instead of meeting local councillors the official visitor will be spending his time in Brovmlow and Banbridge 'libraries getting to know local schoolchildren.

The reason for the visit; next week is Children's Book Week from October 4-11, and the author of many of the highly successful Dr. Who books, Terrance Dicks, will be here to talk to children about his publication.

The Southern Education and Library Board has invited the Dalek to make Mr. Dicks "feel at home." On Wednesday, October 8, Mr. Dicks will be in Banbridge Library in the morning and in the afternoon at the youth club premises beside Brownlow library at Tullygally, Craigavon.

Dr. Who, in the shape of a life-size cardboard cutout, will be in both libraries wearing a scarf knitted by children from Craigavon and Banbridge. Tereance Dicks was a script editor for the Dr. Who series for five years before becoming a freelance author, and children will be able to see copies of his books at fairs at the two venues.

In Lurgan library there will be a special story hour on Thursday, October 9, when Mrs. Bunny English will be guest teller.

In Portadown library there will be a display of children's books entitled "Looking for Pleasure" and at Tandragee, in addition to a display, there will be a treasure hunt for children aged nine-11 years.

At Gilford a display of award winning children's books will be featured during Book Week and at Dromore library on Saturday, October 11, there will be a continuous "read-in."

Elizabeth Bereaford, author of the Womble books, will be the guest author in Cookstown and Armagh libraries during the Book Week.
