[edit]

News that the Daleks have been saved for the next series of Dr Who after the settlement of contractual rows with the estate of their creator may delight sci-fi fans but it has denied a number of other organisations the benefit of their no-nonsense management style.

Parachuting them into BSkyB would end at a stroke concerns of nepotism and they would feel comfortable with the Murdoch empire's plans for global domination.

They would also bring some fresh thinking to efforts to boost digital subscribers with groundbreaking advertising slogans such as "Sign up now. You will obey".

A Dalek takeover of the Home Office would bring a more logical approach to policy formulation though the war on terror may mean the timing is wrong for a move to a more liberal regime.

At the Football Association they would offer a much-needed discipline and intolerance of failure. Their approach to media relations could probably use some work, but at least Daleks would never do deals with the tabloids. Usefully they would also be impervious to the allures of the Soho Square secretaries although they might be led astray by the fax machines.
