MATT'S COWBOY ADVENTURE

THE Doctor is gearing up for a gun fight at the OK Corral as he heads for the Wild West in the new series. However Time Lord actor Matt Smith's hopes of filming his cowboy-themed episode in the States have been dashed.

BBC bosses have opted to stay closer to home for the shoot — and Matt and the cast are set to fly to Spain today instead.

Producers plan to use some of their sun-kissed countryside as "Wild West" backdrops.

A show source said: "Poor Matt won't be saying 'Howdy partner' but 'Hola'.

"Two years ago they filmed a couple of episodes in Utah but clearly this time round they want to use the budget for other things rather than locations."

Meanwhile two new guest stars for the new series have been revealed for the cowboy episode.

The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, which is out today, states that 44-year-old Adrian Scarborough, who is best known as snooty Mr Pritchard in BBC period series Upstairs Downstairs, has signed up to play a character called Kahler-Jex.

Also on board is Ben Browder, 49, who will already be familiar to sci fi fans as lost astronaut John Crichton from the show Farscape.

The new series of Doctor Who will be split in two.

The first batch of episodes will be broadcast in the autumn and the remainder will air next year to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the BBC show.
