The cultish British television series, "Doctor Who," which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary - is, to its fans, a cultural institution of the highest order.
The Friends of the Bergenfield Library have purchased a set of "Doctor Who" videos and novels so patrons can catch up and get to know the "Doctor."
The "Doctor Who" series is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest-running science fiction television show in the world, and the "most successful" science fiction series of all time.
The Friends of the Library have reported on some things people should know before they meet the "Doctor.:
- He's not a medical doctor, and he can't give you a prescription.
- He is an alien Time Lord who travels through space and time to fight evil.
- Nor is his name "Doctor Who." (His actual name is a secret.)
- When he dies, he can regenerate into a new form; 11 different actors have played him so far.
- He travels with a series of human companions, but is not himself human, although he may look like one.
- He travels in a blue police call-box, actually the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension In Space). It is a ship that travels through time and space and, while it's meant to blend in with its surroundings, it's been malfunctioning for 50 years and is now stuck as a phone booth).
The Friends of the Bergenfield Library invite patrons to visit the library and catch up with "Doctor Who."
