Doctor Who sidekick wants to time travel into a period drama

SHE has just landed one of the most coveted roles in television as Doctor Who's assistant, but Jenna-Louise Coleman has set her sights even higher with dreams of making a period drama.
"What I would really like to do is an adaptation," she says in an interview with ES magazine. "I like period drama because everyone is so restrained, but have all these emotions raging underneath."
Coleman, 26, admits she has been ambitious from an early age, when she dreamed of escaping from her home town of Blackpool.
Now living in Hampstead, she admits that she even sends out audition tapes for parts she has not been called for.
Her Doctor Who character Clara Oswald first appeared at the start of the last series and reappeared in the Christmas special, following the departure of Karen Gillan, who played the Doctor's last assistant Amy Pond.
Coleman admits she knew nothing about the Time Lord before auditioning before Steven Moffat, the show's producer and head writer.
"I didn't really know about Doctor Who, but Steven really liked that," she says. "When I went into the audition with Matt Smith I could be more spontaneous because I didn't know him as the Doctor."
Coleman is dating Game Of Thrones actor Richard Madden, whom she met in Budapest while filming Julian Fellowes' ITV series Titanic and Madden was working on the BBC's Birdsong.
She said: "Budapest is full of English actors. When we were there, The Borgias and World Without End were filming, and we'd all go out for drinks in these derelict buildings with bars in the courtyards."
