Leaked emails reveal sci-fi favourite will become a blockbuster
DOCTOR Who is to be made into a Hollywood blockbuster, leaked emails reveal.
Director of BBC Television Danny Cohen claimed the sci-fi favourite would be a Sony movie within eight years. But writers of the series, starring Scot Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, are resisting pressure to rush out a film.
Details of the plan were included in a database of Sony emails uploaded to the WikiLeaks website.
Andrea Wong, Sony's president of international production, told chief executive Michael Lynton: "He [Cohen] said that while there has been tremendous interest (and pressure from BBC Worldwide) to do a Dr Who film, the show runners feel very clear that they don't want to do one at this moment.
"That said, the show running team is coming up with an eight-year timeline for the brand. He says a film will certainly be part of that"
Another leaked message claims Oscar judges did not want 12 Years a Slave to win because it was unpatriotic to America. Hollywood PR Peggy Siegal emailed ex-Sony Entertainment chief Amy Pascal: "This film exposes the darkest history of America. The plantation owners are as terrible as the Nazis, who are the only 'acceptable' cinematic villains:'
The British-made film took best picture, best supporting actress for Lupita Nyong'o and best adapted screenplay.
