[edit]

DOCTOR Who star Peter Capaldi has blasted the BBC for using his show "like a pawn" in its Saturday night ratings war with The X Factor.

The sci-fi series used to air at the family-friendly time slot of 7pm and drew 10million viewers. But the "crown jewel" has been shunted to 8pm to make way for Strictly Come Dancing - and ratings have dipped to 4.5million.

Capaldi, 57, said: "It is still designed to entertain children and it moves into a zone it doesn't belong in. And it's a shame."
