[edit]

William Hartnell, aged 57, who plays the part of Dr. Who, the main character of the BBC television science-fiction series of that name, is to disappear, but does not expect that this will happen for another two and a half years, he said yesterday.

He has been playing the part for more than two years and he said that if the BBC retained his services on acceptable conditions and the programme continued for another two and a half years he would have had enough.
