TO most visitors, Longleat means lions Lord Bath's stalely home in Wiltshire is famed for its safari park. where the kings of the angle roam free.

But did you know as well as magnificent Longleat house, its collection of dolls' houses and historic vehicles and the world's largest maze. Longleat also has a special place in the hearts of Dr Who fans?

Longleat is home to a Dr Who exhibition, now in its 23rd year.

The exhibition is updated and refurbished at the end of every season. with new props and scenes from the BBC series.

Visitors enter through the Tardis. Mach opens out info a long corridor lined by scenes. figures, monsters and other genuine BBC props.

Following the twisting corridor, you come to the subdued lighting of the consul room, where there are hands-on exhibits - make a Cyberman's head turn or hear a Dalek assault your ears with that familiar phrase. 'You will be exterminated.'

Younger visitors, who might be a little scared of time-travelling in the Tardis, might prefer the outdoor Postmen Pat village.

Longleat has been the home of the Thynne family for more than 450 years and the current Lord Bath is the 7th Marquess The house is widely regarded as the best example of high Elizabethan architecture in Britain and one of the most beautiful stalely homes open to the public

The safari park began out of a friendship between the late Lord Bath. the 6th Marquess, and showman Jimmy Chipperfield

In the 60-acre East African Reserve visitors can walk among giraffes. zebras. camels, and llamas, adding to the illusion that you are embarking on a real safari.

Longleat has a flexible admission price formula ranging from an all-inclusive passport ticket (Adults £8.50, children £7.00) to individual prices for entrance to the Safari Path (Adults £8.50 children £7.00) to individual prices for entrance to the Safari Park (Adults £3.50, children £2.00) House (adults £3.25, children's Tiny Tiger Ticket (£2.75) plus other options.

There also are special events throughout the year - an Easter Balloon Fiesta this month, fundraising fun with the Macmillan Mile Challenge in May the Longleat House Trials in June, and the Last Night of the Proms Concert in July.
